Last Friday we hosted the first Good Leadership Breakfast of 2021 with guest speaker Bruce DeWitt, CEO of Testek. The conversation with Bruce centered around the idea of Operational Assurance, which he implemented within his own organization to great success.
Operational Assurance means:
Directors and managers deliver on the day-to-day tactics,
so the executive team can deliver on transformational strategies
When asked to explain operational assurance in his own terms, Bruce notes “having predictable execution of the business, the ability to handle risks when they come up, the ability to find opportunities, and (…) the business functions as a constant.” When you achieve this level of function, it allows your senior leadership to step back, establish the strategy, pivot it when necessary, and focus their energy on moving the business forward.
Paul and Bruce also discussed Bruce’s background in the military and as an elite fighter jet test pilot. Bruce shared how those experiences prepared him for his role as CEO. The business story in this episode is how implementing a leadership system added tangible financial value to the business.
On a lighter note, tune it to hear how Bruce has been running Testek from his sheep farm in rural Minnesota. You will love the story about his dog.
